National Resources:

Essential Resources:

211 is the most comprehensive source of information about local resources and services in the country. The 211 network in the United States responds to more than 20 million requests for help every year. Most calls, web chats, and text messages are from people looking for help meeting basic needs like housing, food, transportation, and health care. We are the boots on the ground, the local experts who make finding help easier. There are more than 200 211 agencies across the United States, each with a team of compassionate, highly trained community specialists who are available to help you access the best local resources and services to address any need. https://www.211.org/

Plummer is changing that by deeply and effectively engaging families for each young person we serve.

Addiction:

What family and friends can do to help a loved one with an addiction. How we approach intervention is important. It is possible to push a person further away and further into a crowd of people that share their addiction. This can result in death and other horrible outcomes. Strategies that are proven to be effective are motivational techniques that involve both the addict and their family and support group.

Substance abuse and trust. Counseling people who suffer addictions takes love, compassion, and commitment, and it also takes trust. A client has to trust the counselor and feel safe enough to open up about their experiences. Duty to warn and other confidentiality policies have to be clearly explained, and at the same time, counselors have to commit to seeing their clients through to recovery.

Seeking Recovery was originated because so many addicts seeking treatment are rushed through treatment programs without given the proper education and tools needed for long term sobriety. Although relapse is part of the process of addiction, many addicts were found to not have been given the intensive counseling needed to get to the root of their addiction so it may be addressed, processed and become part of their past instead of a consistent problem in the present. https://www.iamseekingrecovery.com/

State data and statue sources

Child Welfare Information Gateway promotes the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families by connecting child welfare, adoption, and related professionals as well as the public to information, resources, and tools covering topics on child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and more.

SCAN The State Child Abuse & Neglect Policies Database, or SCAN Policies Database, is a new data resource that can improve the way we analyze child welfare data to learn more about child maltreatment incidence across the United States. The SCAN Policies Database will make it easier for researchers, analysts, policymakers, child welfare agencies, and others to broaden their understanding of how differences in state laws and policies might influence state variability in incidence rates of child abuse and neglect.
